The Scream breaks record for world’s most expensive work of art ever sold at auction

“The Scream” replaces Picasso’s Nude, Green Leaves And Bust which was sold two years ago. While the name of the buyer was not disclosed, it is said that Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich was the one who spent $106.5m (£65.6m) on the painting.

The world record was previously held by Picasso’s Nude, Green Leaves and Bust

“The Scream”, which depicts a person reacting with horror with a “an endless scream passing through nature” (as the artist himself put it), is seen as a defining image of the Expressionist movement.
